Nigel Gooch

Photographer living and working from my home, darkroom and studio at Thorpe St Andrew, a village situated east of Norwich.

Through the medium of the still image I endeavour to capture a story, the mood, or the emotion of a situation that I want to convey to my audience.
My photography is centred on the documentary and pictorial style, which incorporates a sequence of images to convey the key elements of a choosen subject.
Within my home city of Norwich I have exhibited work at; The Arts Centre, The Assembly Rooms, and The Dark Mirror Gallery.
Together with other members of our group I contributed to two exhibitions at The Gablesyard Gallery, Pulham Market.

Aspects of my work as a self employed commercial photographer necessitated the move into digital capture. For four years I have used a mid range D SLR and a variety of software programmes. I fully appreciate the excellent qualities of digital imaging, as well as the speed and creativity available to the user.
However, my own artistic preference remains embedded in the traditional process, using film and wet chemistry. The unique quality that is inherent in hand made prints gives me a personal satisfaction, which I do not experience to the same extent when working digitally.
