'Facets of Life'
Jack Hammond
Jack works mostly in pen and ink, but occasionally uses pastels to colour his illustrations. His work is spontaneous - when Jack puts pen to paper he has no preconceived idea of his creation and the images just flow. Faces, and other parts of the human body, feature prominently in Jack's pictures - look again and you might be surprised to see the profile of a face you had missed before within a strangely unrelated object. You could describe Jack's artwork as contemporary, fascinating, amusing or even wacky, but Jack prefers that you don't analyze it or think too much about its origins, just enjoy it for what it is.

'Ten Portraits'
An exhibition of photographs by Mick Spencer
“I am not a portrait photographer. I do not have a studio, and I find taking formal portraits – indeed, formal photographs of any kind – a generally uncomfortable experience. However, I do love photographs of people, and I am constantly looking for the candid shot that captures something essential about the person photographed, at that time, and in that place.
This selection of ten more-or-less portraits have been taken over a period, and they, and their presentation, do, I believe, say something more about the people they depict than a simple, traditional posed studio portrait would. I hope you agree.”

'From Out of Space'
by Gillian Allard
Gillian Allard began her career as a photojournalist, but in recent years her work has evolved as her approach has become more subjective. Gillian’s images of landscape have emerged from her desire to escape what she sees as the constraints of the human subject and explore the emotional world through an interaction with nature. Gillian’s work ranges from the serene to startling, raw abstractions, for which her black and white technique is perfectly suited. Taking as her subjects rivers, fields and the natural environment and textures of Great Britain, Gillian produces photographs characterised by an interest in form and innovative composition.
Gillian has been awarded both the British Council Travel Award and the Sunday Times Magazine Award for her work, and is currently teaching at Suffolk One Sixth Form College.
The works in this series have so far been exhibited in London, North Norfolk, Wiltshire and a small selection at Suffolk One Sixth Form College.
All are hand printed silver gelatin photographs in bespoke hand painted soft wood frames.

'Hare Today'
Photographs by Ray Mears
Ray Mears is back at the gallery with his latest exhibition "hare today" as recently featured in the Eastern Daily Press and East Anglian Daily Times. Hares are such fascinating animals I was determined to put a collection together for this year, however I underestimated quite how difficult it was going to be achieving the quality photos i wanted. Project hare was a six week study of hares and has resulted in some excellent photos including some very close up shots with incredible detail. A selection of his other work will also be available for sale. (meet the photographer April 28th and May 5th) |

A Taste of Suffolk
by Luminary Photoart
Born in the village of Great Barton, Suffolk, Vince Woodward has been a keen amateur photographer since the early 1980’s. In 2006 he and his wife, Alison, formed Luminary Consultants Limited as a marketing consultancy.
Luminary Photoart was started as a trading name for the photographic activity of the company which predominantly has been wedding and marketing photography.
Being proud of their Suffolk heritage, Vince and Alison, are keen to untilise their skills to dispel the myth that “Suffolk is a flat boring county”. This exhibition is a continuation of this crusade. Already, Luminary Photoart images can been seen in a few local public houses illustrating the less well known parts of Suffolk.
“A Taste of Suffolk” is an attempt to convey an appreciation of the beauty of rural Suffolk and encourage people to look beyond the towns and explore, what is after all, their home.
Please take the time to visit their work, and who knows, it may just whet your appetite sufficiently to explore the real Suffolk for yourself. |
